I am not a competitive person even with myself. But if I was going to win a competition I would very much like to win the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize. What an excellent prize, what? I am sure the jeroboam will not be used to crack against the side of the pig during what is sure to be a naming ceremony like no other.
I discovered a rather dog-eared collection of Wodehouse short stories about 1,000 years ago when I was house sitting for friends. This naturally led me to ferret out Jeeves and Wooster and the delightfully dotty Lord Emsworth, a man whose every waking minute is consumed with thoughts of pigs and flowers. There was a brilliant TV adaptation of one of the Blanding’s stories, Heavy Weather, starring the still swoony Peter O’ Toole as Lord Emsworth. I must see if I can get that on DVD.
Tinkerty tonk.
